Cream the shortening and sugar. Add the potatoes, egg, salt and herbs.
In 3/4 cup of the warm water required, dissolve the yeast, then add to the creamed mixture. Beat in 2 cups of flour and the remaining water.
Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Shape in a ball and place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
Punch down and shape into rolls and place on greased baking sheets. Let rise until doubled in size again.
Bake at 350 degrees F. for 20-30 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown.
